2. Once your application has been received, you will be contacted by a Camp Patmos staff member about a short video interview that you will complete. 

3. After the video interview, you will be contacted about scheduling a phone interview with a Camp Patmos Supervisor. 

4. If you have moved on in the application process, then our Executive Director will schedule a call with you for any final questions and a hiring decision.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Program Directors are vital in creating and leading summer camp programs tailored to campers’ needs. Responsibilities include:

  • Design Activities: Create engaging, age-appropriate programs.
  • Team Leadership: Collaborate in pairs to guide specific age groups. Work to support counselors with camper and personal needs.
  • Pre-Camp Training: Arrive two weeks early for training and preparation.
  • Facilitate Activities: Oversee Summer Camp Activities with Direct Supervisor

CABIN COUNSELOR

Counselors must be at least one year post-high school (e.g., finishing Freshman year of college) and are responsible for leading a small group of 6-12 campers, ranging from 1st grade to recent high school graduates.

Counselors undergo over 200 hours of training before their first cabin experience to ensure they are prepared to facilitate activities and lead effectively. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Spiritual Guidance: Engage in one-on-one conversations with campers about their relationship with God.
  • Parent Communication: Write a letter to parents at the end of the week, detailing what their camper learned and how to support their faith journey at home.
  • Activity Participation: Take part in swimming, biking, archery, team games, and chapel services.

LIFEGUARDS

Join Camp Patmos as a Certified Lifeguard responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for campers in both the pool and open water areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pool Guarding: Supervise our pool ensuring safety and maintaining cleanliness through regular chemical checks.
  • Open Water Guarding: Monitor any Lake Swimming that happens in Lake Erie. This includes working with the boating staff to ensure the safety of campers in the Lake. 
  • Emergency Response: Act as the first responder to water incidents, prioritizing camper safety.
  • Reporting: Lifeguards report directly to the Operations Director

CAMP STORE STAFF

The Camp Store Manager is responsible for overseeing merchandise and inventory at the Blue Sail Camp Store. Key qualifications include being organized, a self-starter, and having a vision for effectively selling Camp Patmos merchandise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management: Maintain up-to-date inventory and collaborate with the Guest Services Director for reordering.
  • Store Oversight: Supervise store hours, ensuring campers have opportunities to purchase souvenirs.
  • Cleanliness: Oversee the cleanliness of the Camp Store and other bathrooms, working closely with cleaning staff to ensure supplies are stocked.
  • Reporting: Report to the Operations Director for daily tasks and responsibilities.

KITCHEN STAFF

A member of the Kitchen Staff assists the Food Service Director in preparing, serving, and cleaning up all meals on camp property during the summer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Assist in preparing meals and serving them cheerfully and promptly.
  • Clean-Up: Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, dining room, and other food service areas on Saturdays.
  • Punctuality: Arrive on time and ready to work at assigned shifts. Afternoon breaks may be given at the supervisor’s discretion.

All Kitchen Staff report directly to the Food Service Coordinator.

MEDIA STAFF

Media Specialists are responsible for capturing camp activities through creative photography and videography. They play a vital role in communicating the camp experience to parents and supporters by taking high-quality photos of campers each day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Photography & Videography: Capture daily camp activities and create weekly recap videos for each program.
  • AV Support: Assist with audio-visual needs during chapel sessions and other events.
  • Social Media: Work with the Director of Communications for daily social media posts featuring camper photos.

Media Specialists report to the Media Supervisor and then to the Executive Director or Director of Communications. Experience with DSLR cameras and Adobe Premiere is preferred but not required. This role offers a unique opportunity to expand your portfolio and sharpen your skills in a fast-paced environment.

HEALTH OFFICER

The Health Officer is responsible for the safety and well-being of campers on camp property. Key responsibilities include organizing, tracking, and distributing medication, performing basic first aid, and managing serious injuries as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Medication Management: Ensure medication is organized and administered appropriately throughout the week.
  • First Aid: Provide basic first aid and manage any serious injuries that occur.
  • Communication: Inform parents when medication is administered or if a child is sick.

This position requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to document incidents requiring treatment. The Health Officer should be pursuing or have earned a degree in the medical field and reports directly to the Operations Director.

Must be prepared for exposure to blood and vomit and cooperate with medical professionals during minor and serious incidents.

WATERFRONT CREW

WaterFront Crew will include: Boat Drivers, Sailing Coordinator/Instructor, and Dock Manager.

Boat Driver
As a Boat Driver, you represent Christ on the waters of Lake Erie, ensuring the safety of all passengers. This requires driving at safe speeds and addressing campers’ fears with patience and humility. Daily responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining boats and equipment. A current Ohio Boaters License is required.

Sailing Coordinator and Instructor
The Sailing Coordinator and Instructor is responsible for the safety of all aboard sailboats and must remain vigilant to maintain a safe atmosphere. This role involves respecting the concerns of others and addressing them lovingly. Daily cleaning and maintenance of boats and equipment are required.

Dock Manager
The Dock Manager oversees the safety of all individuals on and around the dock, ensuring a secure environment. Responsibilities include managing watercraft timing and services for campers and maintaining positive staff relations. Daily cleaning and organization of waterfront assets are essential.

CLEANING STAFF

The Cleaning Staff ensures that camp property and buildings are kept clean, creating a distraction-free environment for campers and parents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean bathrooms, shower houses, and common areas.
  • Mop floors, restock cleaning supplies, and clean windows.
  • Respond to indoor spills and accidents as needed.
  • Complete deep cleaning projects

We seek dedicated individuals willing to give 100% to maintain high cleanliness standards. Cleaning staff report directly to the Operations Director for daily assignments.

OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION

Weekly/Daily Expectations:

Weekly Meetings:

  • Sunday Night: 8 PM meeting to review the week’s schedule, catch up from the weekend, and pray for the upcoming week.
  • Monday Morning: Breakfast and staff devotional at 8 AM; camper registration starts at 10 AM. Staff will take the 9 AM Ferry to the other side of the Island to prepare for Registration. 
  • Saturday Morning: Campers depart between 10 AM and 11 AM. After their departure, summer staff will clean the camp, followed by an end-of-week recap meeting at 2 PM. The rest of the weekend is for staff rest and enjoyment.
  • Sunday Mornings: All staff are required to attend church.

Daily Schedule:

  • Counselors: Responsible for their cabin’s programmed activities created by the Program Directors, including facilitating intentional conversations with campers.
  • Support Staff: Report to immediate supervisors after breakfast for daily tasks. Once completed, they can return to their assigned cabin or report to their Direct Supervisor.

Housing Arrangements:

  • Counselors: Assigned to a new cabin each week for the upcoming group of campers.
  • Support Staff: Assigned to a counselor for assistance once their daily responsibilities are completed.
  • Volunteers and Programming Staff: Housed in staff cabins (subject to availability), separate from camper cabins for the duration of the week

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. When does staff training start? 

           For Program Staff, staff training starts 2 weeks before Memorial Day in May. For all other staff, staff training will start on Memorial Day Evening (starting at dinner). Once you are hired, we will contact you with more specific staff training information an packing lists. 

2. What if I need some time off during the summer? 

          We like to be flexible with our Summer Staff and the time that they might need off. (Example: for a preplanned summer vacation, family wedding). If you know those dates ahead of time, please make sure to mention those in your application. 

3. Since Camp Patmos is on the island, how do weekends work with the Ferry?

On Saturdays, once everyone is back on the island, we will finish any cleaning responsibilities and then having a short week recap meeting. Staff will ideally be off by 2 pm on Saturday. All staff will be required to attend church on Sunday Mornings. Once you are on our summer staff team, we will discuss what that will look like.
